Abstract
Reflectivity spectra of rare-earth borides (RBx; R=rare-earth, x=4, 6, 12) in the VUV energy range and boron 1s absorption spectra of YB4, YB6 and LuB 12 were systematically measured in order to investigate the role of the B-x -cluster in the optical spectra and the physical properties. In the optical spectra, the bonding states of B-6- and B-12-cluster are dominant in RBx ( x=4, 6) and RB12, respectively. The electronic structures of the B-6- and t he B-12-cluster are discussed.
