This is a review of new results on rare decays of the tau lepton. The resul
ts include new upper limits on the seven-pion decay tau(-) --> 4 pi(-)3 pi(
+)(pi(o))nu(tau), and new measurements on the five-pion decay tau(-) --> 3
pi(-)2 pi(+) nu(tau) and the six-pion decays, tau(-) --> 3 pi(-)2 pi(+) pi(
o)nu(tau) and tau(-) --> 2 pi(-) pi(+)3 pi(o)nu(tau), including the first o
bservation of the decay tau(-) --> pi(-)omega 2 pi(o)nu(tau). Also included
is a review of the first measurement of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay tau(-
) --> K*- eta nu(tau). The results are compared with the Standard Model pre
dictions, including a detailed comparison of the six-pion decays with isosp
in symmetry and Conserved-Vector-Current (CVC) expectations.
