Abstract
Combustion instability accompanied with low-frequency oscillations is one o f the typical phenomena in a ducted flame burner. This is due to the intera ction between unsteady heat release and the,sound pressure field known as t hermoacoustic feedback. A parametric study was carried out through measurem ents of acoustic pressure and flame radiation at various condition snot onl y to elucidate the effect of Reynolds number and equivalence ratio on therm oacoustic oscillation, but also to understand the mechanism of the onset of thermoacoustic resonance:in a ducted flame burner. The:results explain tha t equivalence ratio has significant effects on the magnitude of pressure an d heat fluctuation as well as the fundamental frequency. It is also found t hat the onset of thermoacoustic: resonance is strongly affected by the inte racting mechanism between acoustic energy and beat release. (C). 1999 Acous tical Society of America.
