Abstract
The mechanism involved in the prevention of the pregnancy by intrauterine d evices (IUD) is not completely understood. Integrins are a class of cell ad hesion molecules associated with implantation phenomena and have been postu lated as markers of endometrial receptivity. We examined the expression of alpha 1, alpha 4, alpha v and beta 3 integrin sub-units in endometria from women using copper-releasing IUD and fertile women without IUD during the i mplantation window. We tested the integrin expression by immunohistochemica l staining. Local inflammatory reactions were detected in all IUD-endometri a Integrin values were not different between IUD users and control subjects . These data suggest that human endometrial integrins were not altered in w omen using IUD.
