H. Yaguchi et al., Neutron-irradiation effects on the magnetic-field-induced electronic phasetransitions in graphite, J PHYS JPN, 68(4), 1999, pp. 1300-1305
The effects of fast-neutron irradiation on the magnetic-field-induced elect
ronic phase transition in graphite have been investigated; the fast-neutron
irradiation introduces lattice defects in graphite, some of which act as a
ccepters. It has been found that the transition temperature is lowered with
increasing concentration of lattice vacancies introduced Ly neutron irradi
ation. The suppression of the transition temperature can be interpreted as
a manifestation of tie pair-breaking effect by charged lattice vacancies, s
imilar to magnetic impurities in a superconductor. This supports the existi
ng theoretical interpretation of the field-induced transition being a densi
ty-wave transition.
