Exclusive incoherent electroproduction of the rho(0)(770) meson from H-1, H
-2, He-3, and N-14 targets has been studied by the HERMES experiment at squ
ared four-momentum transfer Q(2) > 0.4 GeV2 and positron energy loss nu fro
m 9 to 20 GeV. The ratio of the N-14 to H-1 cross sections per nucleon, kno
wn as the nuclear transparency, was found to decrease with increasing coher
ence length of quark-antiquark fluctuations of the virtual photon. The data
provide clear evidence of the interaction of the quark-antiquark fluctuati
ons with the nuclear medium. [S0031-9007(99)08858-4].
