Abstract
A new working condition for an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) sour ce for the heavy ion research facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL) is reported. This condition is based on the full use of the secondary electrons in jected into the source plasma near the extraction region of source cav ity, and allows ion extraction from a denser plasma. A new magnetic fi eld configuration which could move the B-min of the mirror held toward s the extraction region is also described. Using these technologies, o ur 10 GHz ECR source has delivered beam current of 320 and 80 e mu A f or the Ar9+ and Ar11+ ion, respectively. An ion extraction constructio n with a biased electrode was tested recently. Some details and the pr eliminary results are presented as well. (C) 1998 American Institute o f Physics.
