S. Difilippo et al., PREVENTION OF INFECTIVE ENDOCARDITIS IN CHILDREN - SITUATION AND CURRENTLY EMPLOYED PROTOCOLS, Archives de pediatrie, 5(7), 1998, pp. 785-792
Infective endocarditis remains a severe, potentially lethal disease, w
hich justifies a rigourous prevention schedule. Children with cyanotic
congenital heart disease, mitroaortic valvulopathies, prosthetic valv
e and uncorrected ventricular septal defect are the most susceptible.
Dental care is the main cause of bacterial graft, followed by upper re
spiratory tract and cutaneous infections. Prevention is mainly based u
pon antibiotic prophylaxis but patient education and good dental hygie
ne are also important (C) 1998, Elsevier, Paris.
