We describe the appearance of complete atrioventricular block (CAVE) w
ith sevoflurane and nitrous oxide during the slow induction in a ten-y
ear-old male patient with hypertension, renal dysfunction, and impaire
d cardiac conduction. Sinus rhythm was restored following the washout
of the anaesthetic gas. And CAVE recurred after the subcutaneous injec
tion of lignocaine. The present report shows that sevoflurane should b
e treated with care like other inhalational anaesthetics as regards th
e effect on cardiac conduction.
