Hh. Choi et al., DEVELOPMENT OF A 3-DIMENSIONAL FINITE-ELEMENT PROGRAM FOR METAL-FORMING AND ITS APPLICATION TO PRECISION COINING, Journal of materials processing technology, 72(3), 1997, pp. 396-402
Process design is one of the most important fields in metal forming, w
here the finite element method has appeared to be a useful method for
industrial applications. In this study, a program using the rigid-plas
tic finite-element method has been developed for process design in thr
ee-dimensional plastic deformation. The dies in the computation consis
t of four-node patches, and an area-comparison scheme is adopted to de
cide the contact condition between the die and the workpiece. Surface
integration for the calculation of the friction between the die and th
e workpiece has been implemented with care in the numerical treatment.
The developed program is applied to a precision-coining process to de
termine the amount of piercing. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
