Abstract
In this paper, we consider spatial intermittency in classical two-dimension al and geostrophic turbulence. Intermittency corrections to the scaling beh avior in the inertial ranges are first deduced and then extrapolated down t o the Kraichnan microscale. In the geostrophic case, particular emphasis is placed on the departures from the classical two-dimensional turbulence res ults that are produced by the baroclinic effects. These considerations prov ide Further insights into the basic mechanisms underlying spatial intermitt ency in classical two-dimensional and geostrophic turubulence. (C) 1998 Aca demic Press.
