Abstract
In 1990 a subfossil breeding colony of seabirds from the 8th century o n the island of Sal (Republica de Cabo Verde) was discovered. A descri ption of the site is given, its archeogeography and -ecology is recons tructed. The bones belong to fife species of sea birds, which thence w ere breeding with certainty or high probability, to two species belong to a neighbouring fresh- or brackish water lagoon (Phoenicopterus ros eus, Gallinula chloropus?), and to eight other accidental species. Nin e species are new for Sal, one, the coot, new for the Cape Verde Islan ds. The site will be investigated in detail in the future.
