B. Boddenberg et al., STATISTICAL THERMODYNAMICS OF METHANOL AND ETHANOL ADSORPTION IN ZEOLITE NAZSM5, JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY B, 101(9), 1997, pp. 1634-1640
A statistical thermodynamic treatment of the adsorption of methanol an
d ethanol in zeolite NaZSM5 at 303 K is presented that reproduces well
the adsorption isotherm and differential heat of adsorption data publ
ished by M. M. Dubinin, G. U. Rakhmatkariev, and A. A. Isirikyan (Izv.
Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Khim. 1989, 11, 2636). The pore filling proceed
s via the formation of monomeric up to tetrameric alcohol/cation compl
exes located in the channel intersections. The equilibrium concentrati
ons of these s-meric complexes (s = 1-4) as a function of the overall
loading as well as the potential energies and energies of formation of
the complexes are determined.
