Abstract
During breeding season bathing behaviour in all Canaries declined in b reeding as well as in nonbreeding birds. The daily consumption of wate r decreased whereas the latency increased. Presumably this behavioural change was caused by a decrease in the available amount of specific e ndogenous behavioural energy after depriving the birds of water over 9 days. It is suggested that the temporal endogenous reduction of a par ticular drive facilitates activities in another instinctive behavioura l system.
