Mc. Hampson et A. Robertson, DISTRIBUTION OF FUNGAL SPORES AND FRACTAL DIVERSITY OF QUADRATS ON MEMBRANE FILTERS, Journal of food protection, 58(9), 1995, pp. 1038-1041
In standard practice, estimations of populations of fungal spores on g
ridded membrane filter discs are made from spore loads in arbitrarily
selected groups or rows of grids (quadrats). We used the resting spore
s of Synchytrium endobioticum to examine actual/expected spore ratio.
The ratios showed unacceptable divergences, and are characterized by a
n aggregated spore distribution. The fractal diversity index of the qu
adrats is inversely related the logo of the population numbers. The an
alysis gives values for the appropriate spore number per quadrat and t
he quadrat pattern to yield the best actual/expected ratio.
