Sv. Harren, TOWARD A NEW PHENOMENOLOGICAL FLOW RULE FOR ORIENTATIONALLY HARDENINGGLASSY-POLYMERS, Journal of the mechanics and physics of solids, 43(7), 1995, pp. 1151-1173
A new yield surface is proposed herein, and the behavior of its associ
ated flow rule is explored. This anisotropic dow rule exhibits solutio
ns which follow fairly well the orientational hardening behavior of gl
assy polymers. Specifically, solutions obeying the flow rule are calcu
lated for various orthotropic loading histories, and comparisons are m
ade to experimental data for polycarbonate. While these solutions have
been restricted to rate independent plasticity in this initial study,
the comparisons to experiment are encouraging. Additionally, the fram
ework given herein provides a rational means for describing phenomenol
ogically deformation induced elastic stiffening and deformation induce
d elastic anisotropy in these materials.
