Abstract
This inventory of Cetacea of Algeria is based on 246 stranded and/or c aught animals and 331 observations on sea. The data has been collected for the last eighteen years (1974-1992). Eight species, seven of whic h Odontoceti and one Mysticeti, were identified: Delphinus delphis, St enella coeruleoalba, Tursiops truncatus, Globicephala melaena, Grampus griseus, Ziphius cavirostris, Physeter macrocephalus and Balaenoptera physalus. Delphinidea represent 3/4 of the population (stranded, caug ht and observed). Among this family, we can estimate that three specie s are common (D. delphis, S. coeruleoalba, T. truncatus) and two relat ively less frequent (G. melaena, G. griseus).
