Abstract
Negative alcohol expectancy (NAE) reliably discriminates between socia l drinkers who are satisfied with their current consumption and those who are not (even when the variable, consumption, is controlled). Posi tive alcohol expectancy does not. A role for NAE as representing motiv ation for change in social drinkers is suggested.
