The first overtone of the bending mode of HOCl has been observed in th
e region between 2300 and 2800 cm(-1) at a resolution of 0.010 cm. Abo
ut 2000 vibration-rotation transitions for (HOCl)-Cl-35 and 800 for (H
oCl)-Cl-37 have been assigned and analyzed by adopting a Watson-type H
amiltonian in the S reduction and I-r representation. Improved sets of
molecular constants derived for the v(2)=2 state of both isotopic spe
cies reproduce the observed transitions within their experimental accu
racy.
