Abstract
We have previously reported a standardized stepwise transesophageal ec hocardiography transverse plane (monoplane) patient examination sequen ce suitable for intraoperative use. Biplane transesophageal echocardio graphy furnishes images of the heart and great vessels in both transve rse and vertical planes. This report describes a seven-step vertical p lane examination, the completion component of a comprehensive intraope rative biplane evaluation. Each step is illustrated by presentation of a two-dimensional echocardiographic image, a matching diagram and a s chematic representation of the corresponding axis of interrogation. Ex amples of clinical presentations complete the report.
