Abstract
The mechanical behaviour of normal weight concrete subjected to high t emperature and biaxial stress is not well understood. The investigatio n reported is twofold. The strength is studied of unsealed concrete an d mortar incorporating quarzitic aggregate and bound by Portland cemen t and subjected to high temperature and biaxial stresses. This involve s short-term tests and includes the influence of the composition. Addi tionally a mechanical model is developed for the failure of concrete s ubjected to these stresses which incorporates not only the main variab le temperature, but also compositional variables which have a signific ant influence on the strength of concrete at high temperatures.
