Abstract
Reactions of bis(beta-diketonato) aluminium (III)-di-mu-isopropoxo di- isopropoxo aluminium(III), [(beta-diketo)(2)Al(mu-OPri)(2)Al(OPri)(2)] , with 2-mercaptoethanol, [HO(CH2)(2)SH], and 2,2'-thiodiethanol, [HO( CH2)(2)S(CH2)(2)OH], in 1:1 stoichiometry have resulted in the synthes is of [(beta-diketo)(2)Al(mu-OPri)(2)Al{O(CH2)(2)S}](n) and [(beta-dik eto)(2)Al(mu-OPri)(2) Al{O(CH2)(2)S(CH2)(2)O}](n), respectively (where , 1 for ethylacetoacetato and n = 2 for acetylacetonato). These are so luble in common organic solvents. Suitable structures based on element al analysis, molecular weight measurements, IR and NMR (H-1, C-13 and Al-27) spectral studies have been proposed. Al-27 spectra show the pre sence of both octahedrally and tetrahedrally coordinated aluminium sit es.
