W. Nachtigall, FLIGHT BEHAVIOR OF THE GREAT TIT PARUS-MA JOR AT THE NEST BOX - POSSIBILITIES AND BOUNDARIES OF BIRD FLIGHT ANALYSIS BY HIGH-SPEED SHUTTER CAMCORDERS, Journal fur Ornithologie, 137(4), 1996, pp. 463-477
By studying the flight behaviour of Great Tits at a nest box the possi
bilities and boundaries of using a commercial camcorder with high spee
d shutter for documentation and description of bird flight are present
ed: Documentation of scenes, to and fro flight behaviour, stereotypes,
distances, velocities, accelerations and decelerations, path of point
s, beating frequencies, angles, areas of wings and tails, estimation o
f forces and moments, compensatory beats, flying behaviour including h
overing and other aspects. By this paper it is hoped to encourage orni
thologists to make more frequent use of their camcorders for bird flig
ht documentation and analysis.
